The Biggest Event of the Year!

The Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce, The White Sands Balloon Invitational Committee and the City of Alamogordo has joined forces to present the 28th Balloon Invitational. For the first time in its history, we will welcome some amazing musical artists to entertain our guests. Please join us for the 2019 White Sands Balloon and Music Festival (WSBMF)

Featuring:

  • Over 30 balloons from around the world to include some of the most skilled pilots in the country
  • Over 9 hours of Music
  • Over 40 Vendors – Food, Beer and More
  • 5k Fun Run/Walk – Register at active.com

The Event

The Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce, the White Sands Balloon Invitational Committee and the City of Alamogordo have partnered to present one of the most anticipated events in Southeastern New Mexico. This is the only time throughout the year that private aircraft can fly over the glistening gypsum dunes at the White Sands National Monument. This unique experience contiguous to the Music Festival has the quality to evolve into an event worthy of attracting major regional and national sponsors and a diverse audience drawn from a large geographic area in the years ahead. Naturally, we need to draw on our local businesses and community leaders for a portion of the financial resources necessary to execute an event of such caliber.

The Dates

  • Friday, September 6th
The 2019 WSBMF will kick off with a Pilot Reception on Friday Evening. This is for the pilots, sponsors and crew ONLY.

Attendees will have the option to stay and enjoy vendors or come back for The Music Festival at 2:00 p.m. At approximately 7:00 p.m., the balloons will fire their burners and light up all at the same time to illuminate the night sky. The Festival will end at midnight.
  • Sunday, September 8th
Around 30 balloons are expected to launch from 7 – 7:30 a.m. at the White Sands National Monument. Park entry will open at 6:00 a.m. No vendors or food will be provided at the park. Watch a field of hot-air balloons at sunrise as they gracefully float up into the cool morning air of the Moreno Valley. Balloons Over Angel Fire is one of the few high-mountain hot-air balloon events in the country. Learn how the balloons work, talk to the pilots, take lots of pictures and spend Father’s Day weekend enjoying the laid-back pace of Angel Fire.

Saturday evening brings the spectacular balloon glow – when the pilots illuminate their balloons like enormous, colorful glowing bulbs. The valley floor transforms into a wonderland of fire, color and light.

The Roswell Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce that they will host the 31st Annual “Rise Over Roswell Balloon Rally,” formerly the “Old Timers Balloon Rally.” This family friendly event has been a great tradition that was started by Bill Glenn and a group of pilots who decided to have a rally featuring old timers, and the Roswell Chamber of Commerce wants to proudly continue this tradition.

They want all of Roswell and the surrounding areas to come out to the Cielo Grande Soccer Complex and enjoy these magnificent balloons, meet the pilots, and help them continue to make this a spectacular event that continues for another 31 years!

The event will start on Friday, May 3 with balloons launching at elementary schools in Roswell, followed by a balloon glow Friday night, and Sunrise Mass Ascensions Saturday and Sunday mornings. Follow the Roswell Chamber of Commerce on Facebook for up-to-date details on this event. For more information or sponsorship opportunities, contact Candace Lewis at 575-623-5695 or via email at candace@roswellnm.org

The Saga Continues At
The Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque
Intergalactic Balloon Museum…
Darth and Yoda: Choose Your Side
Cue the “Imperial March.” Darth Vader is coming to the Balloon Museum. His darkness should not overshadow the fact that Master Yoda will be there, too, as the wildly popular duo of special shape hot air balloons return for a special inflation event on Friday, October 5, 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. (weather permitting).
In addition to encountering Darth and Yoda up close, visitors also will be able to meet the balloon pilots and crew members, and:
  • Meet one of the galaxy’s favorite droids, BB-8, for a great photo opportunity
  • Explore the Balloon Museum’s exhibitions.
  • Enjoy the Mos Eisley Craft Port (arts and crafts at various stations in the museum)
  • Experience the Tim Anderson 4-D Theater
  • Visit the Balloon Explorium for hands-on hot air balloon experiments and simulators
  • Watch radio-controlled hot air balloon demonstrations, with guest “pilot” Chewbacca
Visitors will be under the watchful eyes of troops from Vader’s own 501st Dewback Ridge Garrison. Costumes are welcomed, but blasters are not permitted at this event. Those siding with Rebels should look for allies among members of the Bantha Canyon Base. For those undecided, there will be plenty of Mandalorian Mercs to mingle with, too.
Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta
Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is a world-renowned attraction and destination for kids of all ages. For more than four decades, the first week in October brings the smell of roasting chiles and the beautiful, magical moving picture show of hot air balloons sailing silently through the crisp fall air.

Guests from all over the world come to Albuquerque to celebrate ballooning. Literally hundreds of balloons will be taking flight from the Balloon Fiesta Park.

From its modest beginnings in 1972 with 13 balloons launching from a shopping mall parking lot, the Balloon Fiesta has grown to multiple events launching year-round at the custom-designed, 365-acre Balloon Fiesta Park. Our signature event remains Balloon Fiesta—which, with over 600 balloons, is the largest ballooning event on earth, the most photographed event on earth, and the largest annual international event held in the United States.

Imagine 54 football fields, all put together. That’s the size of Balloon Fiesta Park’s 78-acre launch field! And at this Park’s “playing field,” there are no losing teams and no viewing stands. Guests walk the field and are part of the action.

Hundreds of thousands of smiling, upturned faces, awestruck by the spectacular beauty of hot air balloons filling the big blue New Mexico sky. What you can’t hear until you walk our field at nightfall is the thrilling roar of hundreds of burners simultaneously igniting, turning the Park into a huge lighted Christmas tree of colorful balloons. What you can’t feel until you join us is the massive joy everywhere around you.

Balloon Fiesta Park is located north of Alameda Boulevard, one mile west of I-25.

Under the age of 4 cannot ride (due to safety concerns). Book rides by clicking below. *this is a weather permitting event**

What does the event cost? Where can I camp?
So the event is free to see! However the Elephant Butte State park does charge per vehicle.

Our launch site is scheduled to be on Lions Beach inside the main gate. We will arrive onto the beach around 7 am or shortly after. You can camp anywhere along the coast line you can find room.

What to do while the balloons take off?
Please do not park your 2 wheel drive vehicle on soft sand! You will get stuck and be responsible to find a way to become un-stuck. We ask that you do not park your vehicle near a balloon trailer, or truck as we are trying to set up safely and take up quite a bit of room for each balloon. Listen to anyone with a crew shirt or pilot shirt on as to we again are just looking out for everyone’s safety. Please take as many pictures as you want and post them to our Facebook page. Our flights will be done around 9 am at the latest on both days. We will not be having any afternoon or evening events as to the weather does not allow us to.

The Elephant Butte Balloon Regatta© (EBBR) provides an opportunity for balloonists, skippers and sponsors to get together and have fun at Elephant Butte Lake New Mexico. Additionally, it provides the communities of Elephant Butte, Truth or Consequences and Williamsburg additional visitors after the summer season. The EBBR traces its history back to the 1970’s when balloonists would come to Elephant Butte for the Mother’s Day weekend, or in some years, the Easter weekend. The timing of the rally was generally dependent on when the balloonists decided that spring had arrived and it was time to go to “The Lake” and fly. The “Cloudbouncer” The official monthly publication of the Albuquerque Aerostat Ascension Association (AAAA or Quad A) March 1980 issue Announced “The Elephant Butte Mothers day Campout” to be held May 10 and 11. The March 1981 issue of the “Cloudbouncer” announced “The Greater Mesilla Valley Aerostat Ascension Association Annual Easter Fly-in” would be held April 18 and 19. In 1989 Oppenheimer industries donated $500 for prize money if the balloonists would fly over the lake to the Champagne Hills subdivision. The Coast Guard Auxiliary became concerned that balloons flying over the lake might get into trouble and provided five chase boats to ensure safety. This concern for safety lead to the formation of the EBBR and the Balloon Boat Relay Race© (BBRR). The BBRR provided a chase boat for each balloon forming a racing team. The skipper carried the drop marker, baton, for the balloon race out onto the lake. The balloonists then do a water landing, known as a “Splash and Dash”, to receive the baton and carry it to the designated drop area. Prizes and/or prize money is then awarded to both the winning pilots and skippers. The Flying and boating has continued this tradition over the years. On July 1st 1998 the city of Elephant Butte was incorporated as the 101st city in the State of New Mexico. The new city chartered their own Chamber of Commerce in September 1999 and one of their first acts was to purchase the rights and copyrights to the Elephant Butte Balloon Regatta by unanimous vote. In 2007, the Chamber decided to stop running the rally, and the rights were transferred to Kevin Cloney and Al Lowenstein
